MORE THAN JUST ME

“I have given them your word. And the world hates them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world.” John 17:14 NLT

“Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.” Ecclesiastes 4:9–12 NLT

I have felt the loneliness creep in. I've walked a lot of miles feeling abandoned by people and sometimes by God (at least that's the way it felt). Usually, I chose to walk there. Sometimes it has been because I've walked a path that has been deemed weird, or others have seen as too rigid a spiritual path. I haven't left myself a lot of room on some of the roads I traveled. There's been barely enough room for me, let alone anyone else. We were never meant to walk alone. Jesus shows us just how important relationship is. While there were times He wanted to be alone- asked to pray alone, needed rest or was isolated because He chose to be- His life was about being with people. He filled His days with ministering and teaching those He had gathered around Him. The scripture in this devotional is referring to the loneliness and rejection we experience when we as believers try to fit into a world that doesn't accept our beliefs. We should be encouraged to know we are in relationship with other believers and we are never truly alone.
