MY WAY OR HIS

“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.” Psalms 37:4 NLT

I fail to consider just how uniquely I am formed and how each of us is so different, yet similar. We have so many similarities that are easy to see. We have similar frames, arms, legs, faces, ears, fingers, toes, knees, and elbows. We may have different features such as height, hair color, skin color, eye color, and weight, but it's easy to see that the same artist created us. What makes me unique and set apart for a purpose? I'm uncertain. All that's required of me is that I follow the Lord's lead and let Him do the behind-the-scenes work. I may never see or know the full extent of my purpose here. Even Abraham probably didn't see the fullness and scope of the effect his life would have not only on His nation, but every nation. All that was required was obedience. The Lord handled the details. When we strive to complete what we think God wants, we end up doing the wrong thing trying to get to the right thing. Again, Abraham is the example as he tried to fulfill God's promise by having a child with Hagar instead of Sarah. He tried to fulfill God's promise by logical means. The Lord wants to do the supernatural, and that's why we should wait on him to do what He wants with the uniqueness He created us with. The Bible often speaks about the intent of the heart or the desire of God's people to follow the heart of God or like David, to be a man after God's own heart. The fulfillment of this scripture happens when I align my heart with God's desires and not my own. His way is better than we imagine. I tend to think in the now rather than my future. Too many times, what I want now overrides any thought of what the best outcome will be for my future and God's plan for it. Delighting in God requires patience and an understanding that my current moment may lead me to a decision that is permissible, but not profitable for my future.
