THROUGH HIS EYES

“And the Spirit of the Lord will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. He will delight in obeying the Lord. He will not judge by appearance nor make a decision based on hearsay. He will give justice to the poor and make fair decisions for the exploited. The earth will shake at the force of his word, and one breath from his mouth will destroy the wicked.” Isaiah 11:2-4 NLT

One of the most significant characteristics of Jesus was His ability to see people in the midst of their sin or their storm. He saw the woman at the well, and though He knew everything about her, He didn't judge her, He loved her in the midst of who she was. When Jesus was cornered by the Pharisees as they asked Him what they should do with the woman caught in adultery, He saw her, but He also saw her accusers. Who knows what He wrote in the sand that day, but whatever He wrote exposed every heart that wanted to condemn her and He set her free. He saw her and her accusers. As with everyone else's life He crossed, I choose to believe those words He wrote in the sand were full of truth. I believe those words had just as much power to set her accusers free as much as they had the power to save her. He saw her accusers, and whatever He wrote was meant to let them know He saw them as well. Jesus had no idle words whether they were spoken or written. These are only two examples of Jesus ability to see people where they were. The scripture is filled with many more. I suppose I need to evaluate myself and see those who I am surrounded by in the light of Christ's love for them. How many times have I looked at someone and even acknowledged them without truly seeing them? It's easy for me to see how I am overlooked, but it's a little harder for me to see how I have overlooked others. God help me see what You see, who You see, but more importantly, let me be moved by it like You were. Jesus, I know You were seen by so many, but You were overlooked as well. The very people that claimed to know You couldn't see You when You were right in front of them. Open my eyes and remove the veil that would keep me from experiencing a life You created to impact all those whose paths I cross. May I be present with You so that You can show me how to see the real need in someone's life and tend to it just the way you did. May the glory always fall back on You. Free me from my selfish sight.
